Flavio Tiberio Petricca,  Roma, 1985.

STATEMENT

Not very often I tell my story, my biography.

There is always a sort of anti-autocelebrative modesty that blocks me, and thinking that it is indispensable for understanding what I do .. leaves me somehow in doubt, that I I didn’t do a good job with the artworks.

I grew up between two female reference figures.

They created me, the way I am today, unconsciously building the heart of my person and my art.

Them, along with my fears.

My paternal grandmother. Roman aristocrat, student of De Chirico, who made me love painting.

The disturbing and dark baroque frames, the great classical marbles, the severe portraits of the ancestors, present everywhere in the castle where I grew up, will become over time the yardstick for the choice of what I will seek in art and via art.

Upstairs, my maternal grandmother. Her blindness, the darkness in his eyes.

I learn to explore with the tactile in order to help her "seeing".

I studied and study art history and the most varied artistic techniques, trying everything and experimenting since I was a child.

In all the phases of my growth, from the frescoes to the portraits, from the landscapes to the installations, the material returns continuously , in an almost obsessive way, more and more pronounced; in a sort of ritual for overcoming one's own forms of anxiety, that those disturbing objects have cast in me -as they appeared in my imagination as a child- , now I try to make them physically, up to touch them.

Were they really nightmares? this is how my "Tactile Shadows" were born

This is my soul.

But if I have to say why I decided to do it as a professional, I would answer by saying: just because everyone always told me "you can’t make a living with art" .

On the contrary, creating and making artworks, I discovered the joy of being me, in the world.
